What’s the goal/purpose/guiding principle of a government or society, anyways? Promote the general Welfare” from the constitution feels like a start, albeit far from perfect. Maybe if the constitutionalists included that lens in their framing when creating/reviewing laws, they’d be less bigoted.

I’m 100% okay with higher prices if it’s partly the result of more people making livable wages. Theres obviously many factors and it’s more complicated than that, but if we oversimplify, I like the idea of buying less shit if less people go hungry.

💊 F.D.A. Issues First Approval for Mass Drug Imports to States From Canada — NY Times

The Inflation Reduction Act is a more direct path to lowering prices… expected to save the federal government an estimated $98.5 billion over a decade. Drugmakers are suing to block those provisions.

The dingbats in Florida basically saying, we don’t want to fix the system in our own country, we’ll just rely on a different countries system.”

🏛️ To Politics or Not — Pratik

Always insightful and reminds me of a refrain I come back to a lot in terms of the Republicans who are okay with gay marriage because they have a gay cousin” or those who claim to be socially liberal”. It always comes back to them, never others.

👩‍👧 Moms for Abortions — Palmetto State Abortion Fund

Just bought this as a blue crewneck sweater (and added an extra donation) because a) happy to support abortion access and b) thought it’d be hilarious for me (a non-mom male) to wear this out and about…

Today in Tabs is probably my favorite newsletter, so I was really happy to see it move to Beehiiv. If you aren’t familiar or avoided because it was on Substack, now is the perfect time to check it out.

🧫 Scientists hail new antibiotic that can kill drug-resistant bacteria — The Guardian

While he stressed that this molecule alone would not solve the public health threat of antimicrobial resistant infections, the discovery could lay the foundations for future efforts to drug the same transport system in other bacteria.

🐂 All It Took For The Bulls To Get Good Was Zach LaVine’s Injury — Defector

the whole thing just makes a sort of sense it never did when four guys had to spend a third of Bulls possessions watching LaVine dribble a lot.

Unfortunately, he could be returning to the Bulls line-up as early as Friday, with no trade in sight…

🏀 Watching Ja Morant Fly Again — The New Yorker

But there is also the joy of watching one man fly free. No one flies like Morant.

Let’s just hope he can finally stay on the court moving forward.

Animation is a great approach to explore more of this world. I really hope they get a shot to make some this a reality.

🇺🇦 Give Russia’s Frozen Assets to Ukraine Now — The Atlantic

The dysfunction in Washington and Brussels is bolstering Putin’s belief that he will win the war simply by waiting for the West to give up.

It’s probably no surprise that I’m 100% in favor of giving Russia’s money to Ukraine, but the pessimist in me sees this quote as more likely…

🥀 Inside the last true political machine in America — The Economist

Rosemont is such a weird little place. My dad worked at a White Hen in it when I was a kid so I spent a lot of time there before the outlet mall, casino, and restaurant district, but the extent of the nepotism is wild.

It’s official, I’ve three-peated (unless DK goes negative double digits for me…) Funniest thing is, it’s a friend group that’s had this league for well over a decade and I just joined in the last four/five years to fill someone’s spot only really knowing one of the guys.

I’m minutes away from three-peating in one of my fantasy leagues. It’s also a league in which I lost Burrow, Chubb, and Mark Andrew’s to season ending injuries. Half of this league does stop paying attention after week eight, but I’m still proud of this dumb little achievement.

This feels like a great move for the Knicks; OG is a perfect fit next to Brunson and needs the ball less than Barrett. Plus Precious as a backup big will be nice.
