✖︎I’ve been following Ben down the path of both Minders and Gibberish and have similar thoughts/feelings. Part of me wants Minders to have a text input field at the bottom like this too now to really let loose.

✖︎While most of this is over my head, Pirijan does a great job of explaining the work it took him to build offline support for Kinopio in a concise manner. Really cool to get this insight, even for an idiot like me.

✖︎Experimentation in social networks is critically important, and there’s enormous value in making new online communities for creative people.
Pretty fun when exactly what you say is going to happen to a VC-backed product/community is exactly what happens…

✖︎I dig the idea of vinyl only, but selling exclusively at shows kind of sucks for people who aren’t near any of the tour stops.

✖︎With the Pitchfork news, I wonder how long until we get an indie publication for music a la Defector, 404, and Aftermath…

✖︎Had never heard of this podcast before this, but really enjoyed getting to hear Chris talk about his notesArt project.

✖︎Just discovered this podcast and given my love for print and Blitt’s cartoons, this was an easy recommend. Just started listening to the Tyler Brûlé (Monocle) episode too.

✖︎I never thought I’d see the day where I’m interested in non-Big 2 licensed comics. But now… I’m reading all of the Transformers/GI Joe books, I’m excited for Thundercats, and now Jason Aaron is going to right Teenage Nutant Ninja Turtles!

✖︎Always one of my favorite listens every year.

✖︎Sentiment seems to be positive for the Pacers, but I’m not so sure. Siakam will fit nicely with Halliburton, but the costs (now and next contract) are too much.

✖︎Technology used to be fun, or at least it was fun to look at. The future was vast, you didn’t know what kind of weird stuff you would see, what shape it would take
I’ve been looking at a Boox Poke for years, but didn’t know anything about Boox. Sounds like it’s time for a Palma.

✖︎Not that this is surprising in the least. Unrelated: Sheryl Sandberg is also leaving Meta’s board of directors.

✖︎I’ve had some conflicting thoughts lately about my internet presence. On the one hand, I want to do more with my blog TIV, including more links related to timely news, while continuing the existing types of link posts I write. At the same time, I want to dissapear from all social platforms…

✖︎Not sure how I missed this new comic from the amazing Kyle Starks with gorgeous, muted, painterly art by Fran Galan. It’s a PI mystery with some action and a little romance. Boom is really on a roll.

✖︎I enjoy seeing Kareem being a little contrarian here, especially with his Flower Moon take. Makes me want to see American Fiction and Dream Scenario even more now.

✖︎Minders is a really cool journaling app made by @allenu and introduced to me by @bentsai. It’s based on the social stream in seemingly every app, but private, just for you.

✖︎I have a dream where I can grow foofaraw enough to treat it like a real magazine where every Friday issue features multiple paid contributors, with editorials, essays, reviews, and art (but without me losing tons of money…)

✖︎The batteries in all of my watches have been dead for years… Although, I only ever wear them for special occasions now given the Apple Watch (I have thought about double writing though…)

✖︎The unfortunate reality is that Twitter/X is still a place where I receive tips and information, reach new audiences, and drive meaningful traffic for my articles. As much as I am loath to say it, Twitter/X is a major reason I even have a career in journalism.

✖︎Jeez… this is such a bad look for Chicago. Shameful and disgraceful. Reminds me of when Toronto cheered Durant’s injury, but worse.
12 January 2024
✖︎Not sure spending 6+ hours a day with a headset on is a great idea, but ~the future~, I guess. I know there are different learning types, but I think the relationships, both with classmates and teachers, are a big part of education.

✖︎Been considering doing a weekly digest newsletter of all the TIV links… it’d require a paid account on Buttondown (to use the RSS integration), but it’d unlock some other stuff I’ve been thinking of too…
