WHAT?

I already thought Childish Gambino videos were great (This is America, Little Foot Big Foot), but this is on a-whole-nother level.

🏛️ Kamala Harris: What to know about the vice president and former U.S. senator — Axios

Well the inevitable happened. Joe Biden has officially withdrawn from the race and endorsed Kamala. While I do think she’s probably the best for the job, I do worry about America’s sexism/racism effecting her chances to win. Will be interesting to see who she would choose as VP.

🔠 New type for Rolling Stone — Commercial Type

Love getting to see all that goes into creating something like this for a brand so large and iconic along with the overall redesign. I picked up a copy today to check it out.

🧃 A Definitive Ranking of Almost Every Flavor of Mountain Dew — Vice

My wife and I were talking about what we think the second best selling Mountain Dew was. I said Code Red, but that Baja Blast is probably on the way to take the crown. She vehemently disagreed with Code Red. Anyways, now we are thinking it’s time for a YouTube show of us trying and drinking Mountain Dew with friends in the style of the late, great Anthony Bourdain.

🎮 Light No Fire — Announcement Trailer

I know I’m a bit late to this one (games aren’t my area of expertise), but this looks exactly like something I’d love. An open world, online game you can hop in and out of, that’s not too stressful, where you can feel a sense of progress, and not feel like you are falling behind people who play a lot more.

📒 Omnibus is closing

We aren’t growing fast enough and would require a significant amount of external funding to proceed and become sustainable. This is a tough business to achieve that within the current landscape.

I’m not surprised. Comics are a small market. Digital comics even smaller. And trying to compete against Amazon is tough. I think it also just took them too long to get some basics right.

The U.S. government is currently considering an exemption to U.S. copyright law that would allow people to break technical protection measures and digital rights management (DRM) on AI systems to learn more about how they work, probe them for bias, discrimination, harmful and inaccurate outputs, and to learn more about the data they are trained on.

Absolutely love to see it. Really hope this goes through and more accountability gets brought to these companies with CEOs driving multimillion dollar cars.

💬 J.D. Vance:

Trump makes people I care about afraid. Immigrants, Muslims, etc. Because of this I find him reprehensible. God wants better of us.

Spot on J.D. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

☕️ What Does A Great Cup Of Coffee Taste Like? — James Hoffman

Really fun and highly produced video from James. One thing I struggled with when I was starting to make espresso at home was is this actually that good?” And he does a great job getting into the emotional experience of a good cup of coffee, but ultimately, it’s about finding what you enjoy the most.

🎸 The Improbable, Unstoppable Rise of Goose — The Atlantic

Back when I was getting ready to go to my first Phish show in 2021 (having never listened to them before) I started to do some research—listening to Phish and looking up similar bands to get a feeling for the music. Goose was the one that stood out to me at the time and while I haven’t gone to see them live yet, I’ve kept up with them through Bandcamp and YouTube. It’s cool to see them really break through now.

👾 Pokémon Is All About Reading - The Paris Review

And while I’m never stepping on a court serious with AI or LeBron or Steph—shit, I couldn’t even check Damon Young last year at his local gym—anyone can play against some of the best in the Pokémon game by virtue of its general openness, whereby openness, of course, involves money.

I don’t know what it was about this, but I really enjoyed it. It’d be nice if TPR did more like this in the future. A low-brow topic, travelogue, and a black POV. All great.

📦 Packaged and Repackaged — The Present Age

As Fisher pointed out, if young people don’t develop a habit of consuming news directly from primary sources, they may never do so. This threatens the survival of news-gathering institutions and undermines the very foundation of an informed citizenry.

Spot on. And in more ways than one. Every industry is treating AI and cost cutting” in a way that will severely limit aspects of their workforce and their audience in the future.

I’ve been wanting to subscribe to Fitzcarraldo‘a offerings for ages now, but the shipping from the UK to the US basically doubles the cost… Really cool to learn about its origins and how they basically ride or die with their writers that they believe in. The design is obviously stellar. Lots of lessons here if I ever get serious about printing things as foofaraw press…

🥁 Lamb Of God Drummer Hears Imagine Dragons For The First Time — Drumeo

I’ve watched a lot of these and this is by far the best one. It shows how much a song can be improved with a talented (and fierce) drummer, on a real kit, just having fun with it. That’s real rock. And I don’t even like Lamb of God.
