🪷 Walking Meditation — Boo!

Finally got around to reading Maique’s first post on his new photoblog, Boo!, and it was absolutely delightful. Beautiful photos and a wonderful story in a way only Maique can do. I hope he continues this blog for a long time.

☕️ Blank Street Coffee bets on subscription program — CNBC

If I had one of these near me, I would 100% subscribe.

🚀 Reactor

I meant to post this when it launched, but completely forgot. Tor.com is officially Reactor now. It’s a welcome change as they were in desperate need of a facelift.

While the Bulls are already guard heavy, it’d be cool to see Lowry get a buy-out in Charlotte and join DeRozan in Chicago…

🦌 Bucks fire first-year head coach Adrian Griffin after 43 games — ESPN

No surprise here with their defense in the gutter. It was weird to hire a first year head coach from the jump given how ready the Bucks are to win now.

🥬 Green Day: Saviors Album Review — Pitchfork

Saviors isn’t a return to form so much as another overcorrection, professional rebels trying to live up to their status as Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees.

Green Day just takes themselves too seriously ever since American Idiot and it comes across as cheesy. Weezer has figured out how to make new music because they embrace their cheesiness rather than worry about their status.”

🚉 Montreal in Motion — Mitul Shah

Come for the great photographs of the Montreal metro system, stay for the absolutely incredible web design. Mitul creates some of the coolest stuff and the gallery wall space he has created here is top notch.

🤔 [muffins]Aftermath

This is the type of journalism that I’m 100% here for.

📓 Day One now lets you share thoughts with friends and family members — The Verge

This is really neat. I love the idea and could even imagine using a shared journal as a sort of mini-social network.

🦄 Four Hours In, Pokémon With Guns’ Hasn’t Given Me Any Guns — Aftermath

Maybe it’s nostalgia for some people, but the lack of originality in stuff like this just annoys me. This should be a fun thing someone made in their basement and gives away.

👟 Air Jordan Is Finally Deflating — The Atlantic

I mostly disagree with this and it seems to be talking about two (related but) very different things in sneaker culture and sports memorabilia (that happens to be sneakers). AJ1s are still the best.

📻 Introducing: PI.FYI — Perfectly Imperfect

Interesting idea of an app… a mix of nostalgia, everyone’s an influencer”, and the old app Oink. I created an account as humdrum, but am not sure I need another social network right now.

🎨 Enter a prompt and this non-AI artist” will render it as an artwork — It’s Nice That

I love this. It’s awesome seeing some of the previous sketches. I of course submitted a prompt to see if he will draw a Grub.

💬 The power of the input field — ben tsai

I’ve been following Ben down the path of both Minders and Gibberish and have similar thoughts/feelings. Part of me wants Minders to have a text input field at the bottom like this too now to really let loose.

🍄 The Building Blocks of Offline Support — pketh

While most of this is over my head, Pirijan does a great job of explaining the work it took him to build offline support for Kinopio in a concise manner. Really cool to get this insight, even for an idiot like me.

🏴‍☠️ The Quiet Death of Ello’s Big Dreams — Waxy

Experimentation in social networks is critically important, and there’s enormous value in making new online communities for creative people.

Pretty fun when exactly what you say is going to happen to a VC-backed product/community is exactly what happens…

🎤 Armand Hammer detail new album, available exclusively on vinyl at upcoming live shows — The Fader

I dig the idea of vinyl only, but selling exclusively at shows kind of sucks for people who aren’t near any of the tour stops.

With the Pitchfork news, I wonder how long until we get an indie publication for music a la Defector, 404, and Aftermath

🎙️ Barry Blitt (Illustrator: The New Yorker, Air Mail, more) — Print is Dead (Love Live Print!)

Just discovered this podcast and given my love for print and Blitt’s cartoons, this was an easy recommend. Just started listening to the Tyler Brûlé (Monocle) episode too.

🐢 New Gig — Jason Aaron’s Beard Missives

I never thought I’d see the day where I’m interested in non-Big 2 licensed comics. But now… I’m reading all of the Transformers/GI Joe books, I’m excited for Thundercats, and now Jason Aaron is going to right Teenage Nutant Ninja Turtles!
