Krypton: On The Small Screen

8 December 2014

It appears David Goyer is making another go at Superman’s home planet. Goyer, who wrote Man of Steel, as well as having story credits for all three movies in the Dark Knight Trilogy, has officially announced that he will be developing the television show Krypton for SyFy.

Although I was extremely underwhelmed by Man of Steel, I am intrigued by what Goyer has planned for Krypton. My own imagination makes me believe there are many directions they can take a series that follows Superman’s grandparents on a planet that is not our own. However, Superman properties have a history of being mishandled in recent years.

Krypton is being written by Ian Goldberg, who has worked on the popular ABC show, Once Upon A Time. Goyer has recent experience in television as well, currently producing Constantine. I’ve fallen behind on Constantine but hear it has greatly improved.

Krypton seems to be part of a push towards relevance from SyFy alongside 12 Monkeys, the television adaptation of the popular Bruce Willis movie, premiering on January 16, 2015. I can only hope they will be successful with both of these efforts, if only to see another cable network release high quality content on par with AMC and FX.
