Don’t read the book before the movie

chadcomello.com

When you save the book for after the movie, it’s like getting an extended director’s cut that includes so much more material, and lets you dive into that world even deeper with characters and details that weren’t captured on screen.

I thought I was going to strongly disagree with this, but after reading it and thinking about it more, it honestly makes sense. People who read the book are almost never happy with the movie because there's just so much context and depth in a book that you can't get in the movie. So if you go see the movie first, it'll be a fun romp and you'll enjoy it, and then if you really enjoyed it, you can read the book and get more context and likely enjoy it even more, rather than being disappointed with the movie after loving the book.

Stephen Colbert’s next epic quest? Writing a new Lord of the Rings movie

npr.org

He will co-write a new movie with his son, screenwriter Peter McGee, and LOTR veteran screenwriter Philippa Boyens. Its working title is Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past.

I like that they call his son a screenwriter even though he has zero writing credits on IMDb. Colbert also has no features to his name, but obviously everyone knows his fandom. Either way Boyens is still involved so I’m sure she will be able to keep the ship steady.

🧛‍♂️ Josh Safdie Confirms ‘Marty Supreme’ Was Supposed to End With Kevin O’Leary as a Vampire

World of Reel

Originally, the film would jump ahead to the 1980s for its ending, with Marty having made the shoe store he works at in the beginning of the film into a massively successful franchise. Now a rich man (but not a ping pong legend like he imagined), Marty would take his granddaughter to a Tears for Fears concert in 1987, reflecting on his life as they performed “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” He would then run into O’Leary’s Milton Rockwell for a final time.

Honestly, I’d be fine with this. If you were to drop two or three little, tiny hints throughout that there were a bit of a surreal nature to this story, it’d be fun. Although, the wackiness from just the above probably would’ve been enough to take Timmy out of Oscar contention.

💎 Adam Sandler: “I Will Make At Least 50 More Movies Before I Am Dead, and 25 of Them Will Be Good”

World of Reel

When Sandler digs deep into a performance, like the one in “Punch-Drunk Love,” there’s an eccentricity to it that most mainstream movie stars simply don’t have. He taps into something that I can best describe as wounded, awkward, and —quietly?— explosive — a kind of emotional instability that feels authentic. You have to endure the disposable comedies so that, every once in a while, Sandler can reach this type of performance out of the bag.

It’s wild that Sandler wasn’t nominated for Uncut Gems. I thought he was going to have a chance to win it that year, and to not even get nominated was a tragedy. When I see him show up in something that’s not a slapstick Happy Madison production, I’m always thrilled. He’s never bad, and often times surprises delightfully.

🎞️ What Can Fashion Learn From A24?

Vogue

But this strangeness is always a stylish statement, unlike, say, Supreme’s infamous brick. “A24 chooses objects and ideas that are too strange or too narrow for a normal marketing department, and turns them into talismans,” says Martin Mangez-Casey, previously global director of digital communications at Louis Vuitton and an admirer of A24’s approach. “A24 dances to the off-rhythm beat of its own drum and it’s been consistent since it first gained popularity,” echoes Luz Corona, editor of Campaign US.

The way A24 world-builds around their movies and does fun logo iterations has been an enormous inspiration for how I’ve tried to approach building Foofaraw.
