🏆 NBA Finals: Game 2

Miami survive a thriller in Denver to even the series 1-1 behind Vincent’s 23pts on 66.7% shooting, Butler’s 9 assists, and a fourth quarter zone defense that flustered Denver’s offense, forcing 5 Jokić turnovers down the stretch.

📽️ Letterboxd Unboxed — The Wrap

Adding episodic television, a passionately argued topic among members, is in the cards.

Not sure how I feel about this…

We just want to stay in the vinyl record collectors of movie lovers lane, and hope that enough people are going to keep coming.

But this is lovely.

🏀 Nikola Jokić Got Here Patiently — The New Yorker

[Jokić] looks first not to shoot, perhaps not even to pass, but to imagine all the ways that his team might score, and then manifests the best one.

Thomas also touches on the fact Miami needs to turn him into a scorer to have a chance.

🎸 Thirsty to sit down with Tom Morello, Republicans are outraged he refuses to sit with Nazis — Boing Boing

There are shades of grey in many things, but Mr. Morello could not be more correct on Nazism: there are people who are Nazis, and there are people who are not Nazis. If one can see both sides, one should look a lot harder inside themselves.

A first contact story that’s more about personal connection and humanity than it is about aliens. Really lovely.

🤑 WGA Urges Netflix & Comcast Shareholders To Reject Pay Hikes For Executives — Deadline

Netflix is asking shareholders to give retroactive advisory approval of the company’s 2022 reported executive compensation totaling over $166 million. By contrast, the proposed improvements the WGA currently has on the table would cost Netflix an estimated $68 million per year.

Numbers are absolutely wild (assuming they are accurate).

🌌 Wild Study Shows Everything in The Universe Will Eventually Evaporate — ScienceAlert

And, after a very long period, that would lead to everything in the Universe eventually evaporating, just like black holes. This changes not only our understanding of Hawking radiation but also our view of the Universe and its future.

Even though this kind of stuff doesn’t have any real impact on us, it still gives me immense anxiety to think about.

⚽️ Saudi Soccer League Creates Huge Fund to Sign Global Stars — NY Times

Saudi officials have vigorously denied sportswashing” allegations, arguing that some of the motivations behind their push into global sports include catering to their sports-loving population and encouraging greater physical activity in a country where obesity and diabetes are common.

I’d bet money that both this soccer experiment and LIV are dead in five years. Probably for the best that I’m not a gambling man.

🏀 The Two Plays That Defined Nikola Jokić’s Brilliant Finals Debut — Defector

As easily as Jokić can make quick work of Bam in the post, for Miami to have a shot, they need to turn Jokić into a scorer. And Jimmy Butler needs to guard Jamal Murray.

Butler needs to guard Murray for the Heat to win. 13/7/7 is fine if he is focused on Murray and getting his teammates involved. It would also free up Martin to focus on scoring the ball. That was the difference in game one.

QT in case I don’t have time to write more… Denver in 6, although I’ll be cheering for Miami. Bam will be the guy to watch; both to see if Miami has a shot and for the X and O’s. Heat are fine if Jokić goes for 40 if it means the other guys don’t get a rhythm and Bam needs to make Jokić work on D.

Speaking of… I have the June issue of nonsense. (a zine that provides a look-ahead at all the new movies, shows, albums, and comics worth checking out) just about ready to go. Playing around with the idea of using a different tool/format every month—for June it’s a PDF from iA Presenter.

My print experiments are on pause for the foreseeable future. The costs of printing are just too high at my minuscule quantities if I want to do anything on a half decent paper… I am still (slowly) moving things forward on the digital front along with PDFs.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this arc, but this issue (Legacy #900) really delivered. The way it held true to the story and brought in elements of Batman’s history through art was perfect.
