✖︎Fantastic cover of the Sheryl Crow hit that brings just enough slacker indie rock while maintaining that bright, effervescent summer feel. 🥁: A+

✖︎Big win for the Cubs to bring them back up to .500, albeit still 4 games back from a wildcard spot.

✖︎A great episode that captures a lot of the problems with the university system and why overturning affirmative action is terrible. The scales are so heavily weighted to rich white kids that something is needed to balance it out.

✖︎It’s been awhile since I’ve talked about my favorite web app around here, but Kinopio is now available on the iOS App Store. The possibilities with it are limitless: spatial note-taking, moodboarding, mind-mapping, and more.

✖︎The “–“ for NY Times is 10x better than “X”.

✖︎Surprising no one with two brain cells.

✖︎I’m a huge fan of Delayed Gratification so it was fun to get reminded. Need to resubscribe to them ASAP.

✖︎Meant to post last week, but I’m excited to see if Politico can reestablish themselves as a go-to source in political journalism. (Gift link)

✖︎Slightly biased, but I truly believe Brazil is the best soccer country in the world. The passing here is exquisite and the selflessness to pass up the hat trick from Ary was even more beautiful (she’d notch the hat trick later anyways).

✖︎Cool to see this stalwart of the old web move away from the web3 pivot they previously made and get a chance to get it right for their next chapter.

✖︎The Megadeath drummer doing Mr. Brightside (which is excellent) has been doing the rounds, but I dug in a little more and found this one, which I think is more useful to see him play live on first listen, noticing where he’s a measure late when he switches from hi-hat to ride between the chorus and verse, but nails it the next time around.
22 July 2023
✖︎Back at it with some solid alternative releases and a new Nas record.
21 July 2023
✖︎What a way to start your stint in MLS.
21 July 2023
✖︎Holy Messi!
20 July 2023
✖︎NPR has been killing it these last few weeks. Watching these guys with the live horns and drums (and enunciating with real flow!) just makes me more depressed about the current state of hip-hop… And Juvenile on Tiny Desk was fantastic too.
19 July 2023
✖︎This fell off my radar a bit after the Messi to MLS news so I didn’t realize how many big names Saudi Arabia was able to lure after Ronaldo and Benzema…

✖︎This is pretty great. And creepy. But on the positive side, we’ve got over-the-counter birth control pills with FDA approval.
19 July 2023
✖︎Not the typical thing I’d link to given how far off and still theoretical it is (with the lack of any human testing so far), but it’s hard to ignore the Harvard/MIT of it.
19 July 2023
✖︎I’m hoping to take some time to write a little something about the young cores currently being built in the NBA, obviously led by OKC, but there’s also the Spurs with Wemby, Detroit, and Houston.
19 July 2023
✖︎First single isn’t really my cup of tea (too much 90’s soft rock vibes), but it’s Keanu so it’s hard not to just smile.
19 July 2023
✖︎I’ve always been a big proponent of patience. People who are constantly rushing, weaving around traffic never seem happy. That being said… I am a pretty fast walker…
17 July 2023
✖︎I’m a huge Outlier fan, and while I don’t think there is much here up my alley (except maybe the Longlineover), it’s another awesome capsule collection from Willie Norris and Outlier.
17 July 2023
✖︎I’ve never really listened to GWAR (the overly gory death metal vibe had never been my thing), but this was amazing. Funny, weird, surreal and the music is solid. Comes across as a bluesy heavy metal more akin to AC/DC than the death metal I had in mind.
17 July 2023
✖︎A new Soderbergh web series, the return of Justified, and more in this weeks tv newsletter.
16 July 2023
✖︎I only caught a little bit, but I did manage to see the epic 27 minute game in the third set. Excited that a new generation is on the rise as the old guard is retiring.
