Cabernet Sauvignon, often referred to as the “king” of Napa, exploded in popularity for the past few decades, as tastes began to favor intense, bold, tannic red wines. In general, Merlot tends to be a bit lighter-bodied than Cabernet, which is why the latter saw such wild success.
