2 February 2023 music top ten anticipated albums
So I’m rushing to get this out before publishing my 2022 Top Ten Albums because one has already been released and another comes out very soon. So in order to impress the masses with my anticipatory skills, I was left with only one option. So here you go. Be impressed.
Taking Sterogum’s word for the fact Thundercat has a new album forthcoming in 2023. And who doesn’t love a good bass player bringing some funk?
Lana Del Rey is one of those hit or misses for me, but it’s always something interesting. This one has a killers row of guests so it should at least catch some attention.
Wow… Well that’s an album name… While Yves Tumor topped a lot of top ten lists back in 2021 with Heaven To a Tortured Mind, I enjoyed it, but not quite to that extent. Interested to see what comes of the follow-up.
Might Be Right has been stuck in my head since its release, especially as I listened to that album on repeat during a 4hr road trip. Since this is already out, I can say it hasn’t quite lived up to their debut, which gave me nostalgic vibes back to The Darkness and Fountains of Wayne.
shame is hit or miss for me, but so far this appears like it will deliver in a way their last release didn’t quite.
Full length album from this super group trio?! How could anyone say no? All three of them have individually made a top ten list of mine in the past and their EP was no slouch either.
Another one where I’m taking Stereogum’s word. Given that Bright Green Field was my #1 album of 2021, this is easily one of the most anticipated.
The reason I’ve rushed to publish this list since it drops soon. I only just discovered Hope D looking through upcoming releases on Apple Music and one of the early singles, Emerald, made this album shoot to the top of the list.
No info on album name or release date, but should be coming in the first half of the year given the upcoming tour. I’m an even bigger fan of old blink than I am of FOB, but their more recent releases have been duds. First single here has me cautiously optimistic though.
Grew up in Chicago around the time they were just getting started so despite not liking their last two efforts, this is high on my list. The first single also has me optimistic for a return to form with heavier guitar and real drums.
You can also find this list on Album Whale as well as my list tracking each 2023 release as I listen to them.
