I know cable news is dying, but I feel like the NY Times is in prime position to standup a 24hr streaming news channel to overtake CNNs position as the go-to place for live news events. It wouldn’t be easy, but things like the Daily could be turned into a video podcast that drops on the channel live at the same time as the podcast; splicing video of the host in the studio with the interviewees and video of things they are covering. Plus they have a back catalog their FX shows for filler. Then have a host that kicks off every hour with a five minute update of what’s happening in the world. Build a habit of people starting their day with the video Daily and leaving it on all day in the background.
