Even if Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) vote to acquit Trump, he will not be able to tout a bipartisan acquittal without the context that there was a bipartisan call to remove him from office.

Romney will become the first senator ever to vote to remove a president who belongs to their own party.

Feels like a pretty big deal. I wonder if Romney voting to convict will provide additional cover for Manchin and Sinema to convict.

I know he voted with Dems to get Bolton’s testimony, but I figured he’d use not getting Bolton’s testimony as cover for himself to acquit.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he has 2024 in mind. Trump has taken the party pretty far, and if someone like Bernie ends up winning this year, he’d be the perfect person for the right to get behind as the moderate republican true to what the party was before Trump.
