Catherine Kim:
The Never Forget the Heroes Act will now go to the full House for a vote, and with 312 cosponsors, it will almost certainly easily pass. The billâs future in the Senate is a bit less clear. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Wednesday that he wasnât aware of the new legislative move to extend the compensation fund but was prepared to address the issue in a âcompassionate way,â according to Newsweek.
In a world where words have essentially become meaningless, itâs not a surprise that ânever forgetâ has been forgotten so easily, both with 9/11 first responders and every other instance of heroism in this country.
While I applaud him immensely, itâs a shame it takes someone like Jon Stewart to help move this along. Now we just have to hope this makes its way through both houses of Congress in a speedy manner.
