It has been quite a year for movies once again. It seems the last three years or so have been excellent in terms of movies. There’s a lot of buzz around The Revenant and although it made the top ten list for me, I don’t think it is deserving of best film. To be honest, I don’t even think Leonardo Dicaprio’s performance was as spectacular as a lot of people seem to believe but out of the nominees I do think he will still be the one to win it. For Best Picture, I would really love to see Mad Max win but I went in a different direction and hedged my bet with Best Director picking The Big Short for Picture, and Tom McCarthy, director of Spotlight, for Director. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen Room but from all the buzz Brie Larson seems to be a shoe-in for Best Actress. Other than those big four categories, I have The Revenant and Mad Max taking home the majority of the other awards. They are easily two of the best looking films in years. From the cinematography in The Revenant to the editing in Mad Max they are both quite spectacular. With all that said, I’m really looking forward to the Oscars tonight. All the talk around some of the nominations over the past month and Chris Rock hosting should result in one eventful and entertaining night.
