This is a movie that I had absolutely no interest in seeing and didn’t actually watch until about a week ago. It turned out to be a lot more fun than I had expected. Not only was it fun watching Tom Cruise die over and over again but the way they shot the same scene differently each time was really great.
As soon as this was on video on-demand I fired it up because of the great things I had heard about it. It did not disappoint. Chris Evans was great and watching the story unfold throughout the train cars had me on the edge of my seat in some of the most gruesome ways of the year.
J.K. Simmons delivered one of the best roles of the year as the strict and crazy music conductor. If you like music, or more specifically jazz, you will love this movie because it shows the love and passion that goes into the music. As someone who played the drums for a little bit, it made me want to get right back to it.
Some people have called this the best Marvel movie yet and it certainly deserves the high praise it has received. They did a great job at turning the status quo on its head and delivering an espionage thriller through this Marvel property.
Probably a front-runner for the Oscar because of the way time was used as a storytelling trope. This film was made over twelve years using the same actors to show a boy age from six to eighteen. It was masterful in telling a quaint story of growing up in a very relatable way.
I’ve heard a lot of negative praise for this movie from s lot of people especially the ending but I had a great time through the entirety of the film. In Fincher-esque style, this thrilling film delivers in every aspect. Both Affleck and Pike deliver and we get to see Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry in atypical roles for themselves.
The Planet of the Apes franchise is one of my favorite of all time. This one delivers on such a high level. It takes chances and is beautifully stunning. This is definitely a must see film even for non-Ape fans.
This was a perfect film for me. When I heard they were going to be making this film I couldn’t have been more excited. This is a great film and would have delivered even if it weren’t a Marvel property. It’s funny and has big sci-fi adventure throughout the entire film. Groot will be remembered for a long time with the likes of Chewbacca.
Wes Anderson’s quirkiness is one of my favorite things in the movie industry at the moment. The symmetry of the film and the storytelling are absolutely wonderful. This is probably my favorite Anderson movie so far and he only seems to be getting better and better.
This movie would garner praise from me on two aspects alone. First, the way almost the entire film is made to seem like one long continuous shot and second, the Jazz score of the film, which has been on repeat in iTunes since it came out. Besides that, this film looks at our obsession over super hero films and the marvels that come from live performance.
These are films I very much want to see but have been unable to so far. Maybe this list would have been different had I seen everything out there.
