Dot Grid: Episode 2

29 January 2015

I can’t seem to recall where I first heard about the podcast Dot Grid from Nerd Uprising but I’m extremely glad I did. The worst thing about it is that it isn’t recorded weekly, yet. I’m linking to this particular episode in a selfish manner because they linked to my Field Notes Journal post, but they didn’t actually get to talking about it in the show. How dare they?! Unfortunately, in the show notes they gave me credit for something I got from a Medium article by Rodrigo Franco. In the article, Rodrigo lays out a method for saving links in a simple digital/analog method with Bitly. For example, I have the domain krdmb.xyz for my short links. If I come across something that I want to save, I use bitly to turn it into a short link such as, krdmb.xyz/1yEiLqn. This way in my notebook I can record <1yEiLqn> allowing me to easily find it again at a later date.

Even though the guys at Dot Grid didn’t get to this topic, the episode is still fantastic, especially if you have ever considered any type of journaling or logging of your day. I was just about to compile a post of the best articles around the web of different methods for doing so but they pretty much covered it all in the show notes, even including a couple that I haven’t had a chance to read yet.

I love hearing about other peoples methods for journaling or logging because my own method is essentially a hodgepodge of some of the best methods I’ve been able to find with almost nothing originally my own. However, I do think my daily grub is quite unique, but it is a very personal thing to me and wouldn’t translate to many other people.

Do yourself a favor and give Dot Grid a listen. They really do a great job talking about the intersection of analog and digital.
